Kaneland routs Lindblom in Class 5A opener
Kaneland opened the Class 5A football playoffs with a bang Friday, beating Chicago Lindblom on the road 47-0.
Knights' quarterback Jack Douglas ran for 2 touchdowns and passed for 2 in leading No. 10 seed Kaneland (7-3) into the second round against the winner of Saturday's game between No. 15 St. Viator (5-4) and No. 2 Sterling (9-0). Kaneland will host the second round game.
Douglas opened the scoring Friday with a 2-yard TD run with 6:19 left in the first quarter. Just over 5 minutes later he found Garrett Hukle for a 41-yard TD.
With 10:53 left in the first half Douglas scored on a 1-yard run to put the Knights up 20-0.
Trevor Jones ran for a 36-yard TD with 6:51 left in the first half before Douglas' 11-yard TD pass to Chris Angelotti made it 33-0 Kaneland at halftime.
The Knights added two scores in the second half, a 6-yard TD run by Chaz Shaw and a 22-yard scoring scamper from Frankie Selvaggi.
The Knights rolled up 401 yards of total offense and held No. 7 seed Lindblom (8-2) to just 91.
Douglas was 9 of 16 for 128 yards passing while Jonathan Alstott led Kaneland's 270-yard ground game with 105 yards on 17 carries.
