Robinson, York run past Addison Trail

From the very first offensive play of Friday's West Suburban Conference crossover, it was evident that it was going to be York's night.

Senior running back KeVon Robinson took the opening handoff 80 yards to the end zone and the Dukes were never threatened in a 35-0 victory over Addison Trail.

Robinson finished with 175 rushing yards on just 8 carries, also scoring on a 26-yard scamper.

"It was beautiful," Robinson said when asked about that first play, where he burst through a gigantic hole before bouncing to the outside. "The line blocked great, it was a great play call, just perfect all around; a textbook play.

"Tonight was a team effort, a great team effort. All summer, Coach Fitz has been striving for team and family and working for the guy next to you. I honestly believe we have a special team here."

Robinson wasn't the only one to have a big day for York (1-1) behind the line of Tim Glavan, Dan Wagner, Hayden Snyder, Joshua Mathiasen and Jack Wall. Junior tailback Nicholas Conroy added 133 yards on 13 attempts, finding paydirt on a 43-yard run early in the fourth quarter to account for the final margin.

"For most of our plays, we ran the ball up the middle," Conroy said, "and we had great success with that. And when we did run outside, we had success with that too. The linemen were phenomenal tonight, I thanked them every time I came off the field. They did a tremendous job."

Also doing a tremendous job was a York defensive unit that allowed under 100 passing yards while receiving sacks from Robinson and Bo Thomas. The Dukes also held Blazers running back J'Lan Williams to 35 yards on 14 carries.

"We are very happy with the win," Thomas said. "Hopefully it will carry over into next week when we play (Lyons Twp.). The D-line had a good push up front and the linebackers did a great job filling. The corners and safeties were also filling the holes as well. It was a great effort."

Quarterbacks Joseph Javorek and Daniel Dunn both threw touchdown passes - Javorek a 29-yard strike to Michael Pedote and Dunn a 6-yarder to Tyrone Birmingham.

"That first play set the tone for the game," said York coach Mike Fitzgerald after registering his first win at the school. "Then I think our guys kind of pinned their ears back and were flying around. This was our first road game with this group and I wanted to see how they would respond. And that is definitely how you want to start things."

Addison Trail (0-2) received 6 catches for 85 yards from Anthony Carlson. The Blazers' best chance to score came in the third quarter when they had a fourth and goal at the 2-yard line but were stopped.

"We just aren't playing like we are capable of playing," Addison Trail coach Paul Parpet Jr. said. "That's what it comes down to. And I will take the blame for that. We need to figure it out pretty quickly."
