Jacobs hands Dundee-Crown 1st loss

Jacobs took control early.

The Golden Eagles led 21-0 on the first play of the second quarter and coasted to a 41-7 win against Dundee-Crown in Fox Valley Conference action in Algonquin Friday night.

Anthony Wilson accounted for 5 touchdowns and Jake Michels ran for 81 yards and a score for Jacobs (2-1 overall and in the FVC).

Jacobs took control early with a 17-play, 76-yard drive capped by Wilson's 3-yard run. When the Chargers fumbled on their second play, Wilson and the Eagles quickly made it 14-0. Wilson scored his third TD, a 36-yarder, to open the second period.

Wilson also threw touchdown passes to Daniel Klein and Brandon Van de Linde.

The Eagles wanted to get back on track after a tough loss to Huntley last week.

"Last week's game was a thing that got away," said Jacobs coach Bill Mitz. "We drop a touchdown pass and then play real well."

The Jacobs defense held the Chargers to 156 total yards, including 1 yard rushing. Zac Matovich had 2 of the Eagles' 5 sacks of Josh Raby. Aidan Sproule had a sack and a fumble recovery, and Klein came up with an interception.

Wilson finished 9 of 17 for 110 yards and no interceptions while adding 71 yards on the ground.

After opening the season with a pair of comeback wins, the Chargers dug themselves too big of a hole this time.

They did get on the board with a nifty 54-yard completion from Raby to Jordan Hairston. Nick Wolfe recovered the ensuing onside kick for D-C and moved the ball again, but back-to-back sacks killed the drive.

Besides the turnovers, the Chargers dropped a touchdown pass, missed a field goal, and had a long completion to the 3-yard line called back by a holding penalty.

"We just didn't come out and play very physical," said D-C coach Mike Steinhaus. "That first drive, the defense made them work to get that touchdown and they were playing hard. Obviously, they had the 2 plays and fumbled on the second play and that doesn't help, and they scored right there. They just didn't play very well. There's not much to say."

Raby finished 12 of 26 for 155 yards, with a touchdown and an interception for D-C. Jack Michalski caught 5 of those passes for 54 yards.
