DuPage County: Tuesday Morning Quarterback

Daily Herald Report

Name: Connor Schmidt

School: St. Francis

Year: Senior

Best thing about being an offensive lineman: Every play something's always going on. For receivers sometimes they're just running a route, but offensively we get to hit every play and do something.

Worst thing about being an offensive lineman: I'm sure everyone says it, but I'd probably say lack of credit. Personally I'm OK without the credit, but I would like to see it for some of my teammates that are putting in the work.

Don't tell my coach that: I've secretly been trying to negotiate with (Spartans lineman) Ryan (Holleman) for his 3-tech spot on the defensive line.

If I could change one thing about football: Just for as a safety thing, I wouldn't entirely get rid of cut blocking but I would make some changes. It's definitely an important part of line play, but the knee injuries that come from that are pretty dangerous.

Team not on our schedule I wish we could play: I don't have a team in particular that I would like to play, but maybe any of the teams from our conference in my soph year. Montini, Marmion, St. Viator, teams like that from (the Chicago Catholic League).

How I'll celebrate if I score a TD: Probably not anything too crazy, but I'd definitely want to celebrate with my linemen, who have just the same opportunities as me.

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat: I'd prob say Instagram for everything that's on there. You have friends, family, then your accounts. I can follow the school football account, the school fan page, all that stuff.

What I like best about my school: Definitely the staff, both the teachers and coaches. Every teacher and coach has their own individual story and they're taking their experiences, and they're dedicated to helping get you where you want to be.

Something about me that would surprise you: It's not totally known, but I have been a guitar player for a few years. I played electric guitar in the school band last year.

Other sports I play: I used to play basketball but now currently I'm just in rugby (Glen Ellyn Ducks) and in football.

Favorite actor: Chris Pratt. Seeing stuff on TV and in the movies, he's a well-rounded actor and just seems like a great guy.

Favorite actress: I don't really have one in particular but Emma Stone comes to mind. Same thing, a variety of roles. I love “Super Bad.”

Favorite athlete: Tom Brady, definitely. We're big Michigan fans — and just to see someone who on paper didn't seem like the best fit but through his dedication became one of the most dominant players.

Favorite musician: Post Malone. He played guitar at the start like I did, pretty casually. He's got his own unique style of music.

The stat

Opening in 1966 with a program debut victory over Elk Grove, Addison Trail had never suffered a winless football season. It still hasn't, as the Blazers' 26-13 victory at Hinsdale South continued their streak of winning at least one game for 53 years.
