Scouting this weekend's football games in Lake County

Stevenson (1-0) at Warren (1-0)When: 5 p.m., Friday

Last week: Stevenson d. Waukegan, 49-0; Warren d. Zion-Benton, 48-6.

2019 result: Warren d. Stevenson, 37-0.

Outlook: Typically one of the best matchups in Lake County each season, Warren had Stevenson's number in 2019. Actually, the Blue Devils allowed very few Stevenson numbers in pitching a shutout. It was one of six Warren shutouts that season. Warren is coming off another big victory, forcing a running clock last week against Zion-Benton. The Blue Devils got 3 rushing touchdowns from Maurice Edwards, who finished with 146 yards on 17 carries. Stevenson, which also forced a running clock last week, got 2 touchdown runs out of Andrew Miller and 2 touchdowns out of quarterback Liam Crawley, a pass and a rush.

Lake Forest (1-0) at Mundelein (0-1)When: 5 p.m., Friday

Last week: Lake Forest d. Lake Zurich, 21-3; Mundelein lost to Libertyville, 39-21.

2019 result: Lake Forest d. Mundelein, 13-0.

Outlook: Lake Forest didn't allow a touchdown last week but will have its hands full defensively against a Mundelein team that rolled up 275 rushing yards, led by senior running backs Shawn Patrick (90 yards) and Joseph Foreman (75 yards) as well as junior quarterback Brock Paluch (97 yards).

Libertyville (1-0) at Lake Zurich (0-1)When: 5 p.m., Friday

Last week: Libertyville d. Mundelein, 39-21; Lake Zurich lost to Lake Forest, 21-3.

2019 result: Lake Zurich d. Libertyville, 24-22.

Outlook: Senior quarterback Blake Ellingson shifted smoothly from basketball to football. Less than a week after shooting his last shot of the basketball season, Ellingson was on target with his receivers, throwing 3 touchdown passes against Mundelein to three different receivers. Lake Zurich struggled to get its offense going last week against Lake Forest, managing just a field goal.

Grayslake North (1-0) at Grant (1-0)When: 7:15 p.m., Friday

Last week: Grayslake North d. Round Lake, 55-14; Grant d. North Chicago, 37-6.

2019 result: Grayslake North d. Grant, 20-17.

Outlook: It's air versus ground. Grayslake North took to the air last week as quarterback Jacob Donohue threw for 7 touchdowns and 300 yards. Grant was tough in the rushing game last week. John Bolton ran for 6 touchdowns and 255 yards.

Wauconda (1-0) at Grayslake Central (0-1)When: 7 p.m., Friday

Last week: Wauconda d. Lakes, 31-3; Grayslake Central lost to Antioch, 34-28.

2019 result: Wauconda d. Grayslake Central, 40-14.

Outlook: The Wauconda defense flexed its muscle last week, allowing Lakes to tally only 109 yards of offense. Not to be outdone, the Wauconda offense was proficient as senior quarterback Nick Bulgarelli completed 13-of-16 passes for 213 yards and 2 touchdowns. Grayslake Central hung around with defending Northern Lake County Conference champion Antioch last week for nearly the entire game. Quarterback Darryl Overstreet put up impressive numbers, completing 21-of-32 passes for 267 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Round Lake (0-1) at Lakes (0-1)When: 1 p.m., Saturday

Last week: Round Lake lost to Grayslake North, 55-14; Lakes lost to Wauconda, 31-3.

2019 result: Lakes d. Round Lake, 38-14.

Outlook: Both of these teams had rough openers last week. Round Lake was hit with a running clock at Grayslake North and Lakes wasn't able to get into the end zone.

Carmel (0-0) at St. Patrick (1-0)When: 1 p.m., Saturday at Triton College

Last week: Carmel did not play; St. Patrick d. Leo, 35-8.

2019 result: St. Patrick d. Carmel, 32-31.

Outlook: Carmel is looking to get the ball rolling on its season after missing last week due to COVID protocols.

Vernon Hills (0-0) at Highland Park (1-0)When: 12 p.m., Saturday

Last week: Vernon Hills did not play; Highland Park d. Maine East, 58-7.

2019 result: Highland Park d. Vernon Hills, 16-7.

Outlook: Vernon Hills missed its season opener last week due to COVID protocols.
