Dugo runs for 194 yards and 4 TDs in Conant's 42-30 win over Fremd

Conant's Joey Dugo was like a freight train barreling down the tracks. The Fremd defense knew he was coming and couldn't do anything to get out of his way.

Dugo had a big night for the host Cougars (2-3, 1-0) as they knocked off their Mid Suburban West rival 42-30.

The senior quarterback rushed for 194 yards on 17 carries with 4 touchdowns.

"Joey is a tremendous athlete," Conant coach Bryan Stortz said. "I give him a packet of plays and the decisions he makes always seem to put us in the right situation. He really knows our offense."

The Vikings (0-5, 0-1) jumped out to a surprise 7-0 lead in the first quarter after a muffed punt return by the Cougars, and a Fremd recovery by Rhic Tolentino set them up at the Conant 36-yard line.

Fremd quarterback Caiden Suchy scored on a 21-yard run and Connor Cox converted the point-after touchdown.

Conant drove 75 yards on its first possession of the game. The key play was a fourth down conversion pass from Dugo to Ryan Kutella.

The 25-yard pass would be the only one in the game for the Cougars. Gracie Rodriguez converted the first of her 6 extra points for the evening.

The Cougars scored on their only true possession of the second quarter. Once again, Dugo led them on a 74-yard march before capping off the drive with a 6-yard touchdown of his own.

Fremd drove 59 yards in 2:50 to set up a 38-yard Connor Cox field goal to cut the lead at the half to 14-10.

Conant scored twice in the third quarter. Dominic Mininni scored from the 2-yard line. Dugo scored his second touchdown of the night on a 25-yard run.

Fremd's Archie Cox returned the Cougar's first kickoff of the third quarter 96 yards for a touchdown. Connor Cox converted.

The Vikings were successful with an onside kick recovered by Archie Cox at the Conant 43-yard line. The Vikings then scored on a 23-yard pass from Suchy to freshman receiver Brennan Saxe. Connor Cox again converted.

Dugo scored twice in the fourth quarter on runs of 4 yards and 54 yards to put the game out of reach.

The Vikings final score of the game came on another Suchy pass to Saxe for 30 yards. The 2-point conversion failed.

The offensive line for Conant of Alex Valdez, Blake Mueller, Connor Ahrendt, Jonathan Gorski, Patrick O'Connor, Harley Stary and Jose Rodriguez paved the way for 321 rushing yards. In addition to Dugo's rushing performance, Mininni had 95 yards rushing for Conant.

Suchy passed for 195 yards for the Vikings, while Cox and Saxe caught 9 passes each.
