Local schools forming new conference

Aurora Christian, St. Edward, Timothy Christian and Wheaton Academy will leave the Metro Suburban Conference and join the newly formed Chicagoland Christian Conference effective with the 2023-24 school year, the schools announced Friday.

They will join Bishop McNamara, Chicago Christian, Chicago Hope, Christ the King Jesuit and Marian Central in the nine-school conference. The league will have eight schools for football because Timothy Christian does not offer the sport.

Left behind in the MSC will be Westmont. Riverside-Broofield, Ridgewod and Elmwood Park, all public schools. Three schools - IC Catholic Prep, St. Francis and Aurora Central Catholic announced last month they will leave the MSC in 2023 to join the Chicago Catholic League/East Suburban Catholic Conference.

"The CCC will bring together faith-based schools from 6 counties around the Chicagoland area," a news release stated. "It will promote a balanced and competitive environment while placing a special emphasis on building the whole individual in mind, body and spirit in glory to God."
