Van Witzenburg's 5 TDs lead Crystal Lake South past Dundee-Crown

He can catch passes out of the backfield and run through and past defenses.

Crystal Lake South senior Nathan Van Witzenburg is certainly a multi-purpose back.

Running for 4 touchdown and catching a TD pass from Caden Casimino, Van Witzenburg scored 5 touchdowns to lead the Gators to a hard-fought 39-32 win over Dundee-Crown in Fox Valley Conference action in Carpentersville Friday.

Van Witzenburg, who accounted 252 yards in total offense, rushed for 194 yards and snared 4 passes for 58 for the Gators (3-1, 3-1).

The senior back praised the Gators offensive line of AJ Armoux, Mark McClinton, Nathan Compere, KC Brictabacher and Andy Bamburija.

"I couldn't have done it without the offensive linemen," said Van Witzenburg. "They were opening huge holes all day long."

CL South coach Rob Fontana praised Van Witzenburg and the offensive line.

"We brought Van Witzenberg and Compere up as freshman and they been outstanding for four years," said the South coach. "They are both great leaders."

Casimino completed 19-of-30 passes for 299 yards and a TD pass to Van Witzenburg.

Junior Michael Prokos caught 8 passes for 157 yards for the winners.

Dundee-Crown (2-2, 2-2), playing without senior running back Keegan Otte, got an outstanding effort from junior quarterback Zach Randl, who completed 20-of-29 passes for 247 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Torrion Bell caught 2 touchdown passes and threw for another on a double pass.

"The kids played so hard," said D-C coach Mike Steinhaus. "They are starting to buy in."
