South Elgin improves to 7-0 with win over Elgin

South Elgin coach Dragan Teonic wants to make sure Mason Montgomery gets as many touches as possible during a game.

Montgomery caught 2 touchdown passes and ran for another to lead undefeated South Elgin to a 49-25 win over Elgin in Upstate Eight Conference action at Elgin's Memorial Stadium Friday night.

The Storm are 7-0 and 7-0 in the conference.

Montgomery caught touchdown passes of 36 and 15 from sophomore backup Nathan Downey and scampered nearly untouched for 56 yards with 6:05 remaining in the game.

"I just want to help us win," said Montgomery. "We just need to execute. It is fun being 7-0."

Teonic has great praise for Montgomery.

"Mason is a tough, amazing kid," said the Storm coach. "He plays defense and offense and is dynamic on both sides of the ball."

Downey, backing up junior Jake Sullivan who is expected back next week, completed 5-of-7 passes for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns.

"Nathan has done a great job in relief of Jake," said Tenic. "He gives us a great backup."

The Storm, which ran for 280 yards, got a 125-yard effort from Jordan Green including an 80-yard touchdown run with 1:32 left in the first half.

Elgin (3-4, 3-4) got 2 touchdowns from quarterback Jim Syrek before he left the game with an injury.
