Green's 3 TDs on 5 carries help South Elgin roll by Bartlett
Jordan Green put in a pretty good night's work, rushing for 169 yards and 3 touchdowns. And he did it all on just 5 carries.
On a night when South Elgin's offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage, the Storm racked up 455 yards on the ground in downing Bartlett, 53-7.
Ari Kravis was the Storm's workhorse, piling up 142 yards and a pair of scores.
Mason Montgomery added a pair of scores as the Storm remained unbeaten on the year and in the Upstate Eight Conference at 8-0.
On a night when a light but persistent rain hampered the passing game, the Storm was content to take what the defense gave in the running game. Kravis repeatedly ran off tackle for 10- to 20-yard gains.
"We were able to establish the line of scrimmage, and once we figured out one formation and a couple of series of plays that we felt like we had some angles on, that ended up becoming a big thing for us," said Storm coach Dragan Teonic. "We handled it well."
Green scored on runs of 55, 22 and 71 yards. Kravis found the end zone after runs of 21 and 3 yards. Montgomery caught a scoring pass from Nathan Downey - the Storm's only completion of the night - and returned a kickoff 75 yards for another score. Lucas Noworol also ran for a score for South Elgin.
The Storm beat their archrivals to the south for the third straight year.
"It's just a whole different atmosphere," Green said of the rivalry game. "It's like everyone's on a whole different level."
Those on a different level included the O-line.
"The line today, they did a fantastic job," said Green. "That's the only reason I was able to do what I did today."
Kravis agreed.
"Once we got that ball, automatically we were gone," he said. "Open field - you get 10 yards before anyone even touches you. It was amazing what our linemen did tonight."
Green's second TD put South Elgin up 20-0 on the first play of the second quarter. The Storm led 33-0 at the half and 47-0 after 3 periods.
Bartlett finally got on the scoreboard when Dontain Williams burst through the middle and broke several tackles on the way to a 52-yard scoring run.
Any euphoria was short-lived, however, as Montgomery took the ensuing kickoff back the other way.
Bartlett's only other scoring chance ended when Montgomery picked off a pass at the 3-yard line and returned it 68 yards. That set up Green's second touchdown.
Williams finished with 80 yards on the ground.
South Elgin won its 23rd in a row in the UEC and 18 straight at home.
