Conant, Barrington take care of business as they try to qualify for playoffs

Conant and Barrington did what they needed to do Friday. Now it is a waiting game for both to see if they qualify for the state playoffs.

Meanwhile, Lakes fell a point short in their bid to qualify.

Conant beat Schaumburg 41-0 in Hoffman Estates to break a four-game losing streak. The Cougars, which opened the season with four consecutive wins, needed just one more to qualify for the playoffs.

"The kids played well tonight," Conant coach Bryan Stortz said. "The kids have worked hard all year, just came up short a few times. We needed to find a way to get it done. It is really great to see them get it done."

Conant got off to a terrific start when TJ Ramsey ran the opening kickoff back 90 yards for a touchdown. Dominic Minnini had 3 touchdown runs. And Matt Maize and Brady Teschner each had touchdown runs while Cody Biedke returned a field goal for a touchdown.

Barrington 34, Fremd 7: Dillon Fitzpatrick scored 4 touchdowns and rushed for 192 yards as Barrington (4-5, 3-2) kept their slim playoff chances alive.

"It was a great team win," Barrington coach Joe Sanchez said. "It was great night for us. Now we just have to wait and see."

Grayslake Central 40, Lakes 39: Kaidan Miller caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from Cole Gillette with 24.7 seconds left. Miller than ran for the 2-point conversion as Grayslake Central (6-3, 4-3) stunned Lakes (3-4, 4-5) in the final minute.

Amir Al Hindi had scored on a 9-yard run and Lakes 2-point conversion was good with 1:01 left to put Lakes up 39-32.

Grayslake Central then went 48 yards in four plays in less than 25 seconds for the victory.

Lake Zurich 35, Waukegan 0: Lake Zurich (8-1, 7-0) clinched the North Suburban title with a convincing win.

Antioch 76, Round Lake 3: Antioch (6-3, 6-1) earned a share of the Northern Lake County Conference title with their win and Grayslake North's win over Wauconda.
