Notre Dame ends Antioch’s undefeated season

Ty Gavin rushed for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Notre Dame defeated visiting Antioch 17-10 in a Class 6A state quarterfinal in Niles on Saturday night, handing the Sequoits their first loss.

Right now, it’s a simple $8 plaque. But the head football coaches at both Antioch and Lakes agree that their annual rivalry game each year is worth a better, more creative, reward for the champion. On Saturday, the rival schools meet each for the first time in the playoffs, when Antioch hosts the second-round matchup.

Lakes’ football team jumped out quickly and did not look back in the opening round of the Class 6A playoffs. Dylan DeAngelo recovered an important fumble and added a rushing touchdown, D’Lo Hardy scored 3 touchdowns, and quarterback Chris Selig added a score of his own, as the Eagles beat Belvidere North 35-17 Friday night.
