Streamwood 2-0 for 1st time since 2002

Dundee-Crown knew all about Alex Morrow.

After the Streamwood running back rushed for 300 yards against the Chargers last year, D-C made sure to stack the box against the Sabres on Friday night.

What they didn’t count on was the tremendous passing efficiency from Streamwood quarterback Dalton Lundeen.

The senior threw 3 touchdown passes to guide Streamwood to a 40-17 victory at the D-C Bowl. The win gives Streamwood it’s first 2-0 start since 2002.

“They were shutting some things down,” Sabres’ coach Cal Cummins said. “Alex had some big runs, but the rest of the time they corralled us.”

Lundeen made the most of his speedy receivers in the first half torching Dundee-Crown (0-2) for 240 yards and completing 11 of 12 passes.

Bryan Holder caught 3 passes for 120 yards in the first half including a 63-yard touchdown to put Streamwood up 27-3.

Ryan Cook (4 catches, 65 yards) and Deji Giwa (2 catches, 55 yards) each caught scoring passes of 14 and 18 yards respectively.

“I knew they were going to put 8 in the box because last year, Alex had a big game against them,” Lundeen said. “They can’t defend against everything. When you get Holder out there, he’s a track guy. Giwa, they’re all track guys. They all run all over the field.”

Morrow also had his turn running all over the place in his 3 quarters of work. The senior busted loose for a 71-yard touchdown run on the third play of the game giving the Sabres an early lead, and the Chargers memories of last season’s game.

Morrow finished the game rushing for 171 yards on 15 carries and pounded in touchdowns from 1 and 2 yards out.

“We always give up a big play early and that’s huge,” Chargers’ coach Vito Andriola said.

Chargers’ sophomore Cody Lane was impressive with scoring runs of 27 and 36 yards. He finished the game with 115 yards on just 6 rushes. The Chargers managed just 200 total yards in the loss.

Streamwood had 406 yards of offense in the first half.
