Bears recognize Libertyville’s Kuceyeski

Libertyville’s Randy Kuceyeski has been named Chicago Bears high school football “Coach of the Week” for Week 1.

Starting his 18th season with the Wildcats and 34th overall in coaching, Kuceyeski led his team to a 23-20 overtime victory over the Barrington Broncos on opening night. The game was a special Military Appreciation Night spearheaded by Kuceyeski.

After Friday night’s win, his career record is 129-53 in his 18 years at Libertyville. His 2004 team finished 14-0 and won the Class 7A state title, and the 2003 team was 13-1 and finished second in the state in 7A. Libertyville made 10 straight playoff trips from 1997-2006 under Kuceyeski.

In honor of Kuceyeski, $1,500 will be donated to Libertyville’s football program. Kuceyeski will be invited to the Bears-Seahawks game on Sunday, Dec. 11, and will be recognized during an on-field ceremony that day. He will also receive a framed certificate and will have the opportunity to attend a Bears practice and “chalk-talk” with Bears coach Lovie Smith and other 2011 “Coach of the Week” honorees.
