Bolingbrook tops Loyola in 8A

CHAMPAIGN —Led by 2 rushing touchdowns from quarterback Aaron Bailey and a defense that played well all night, Bolingbrook won its first football state title with a 21-17 victory against Loyola Academy on Saturday in the Class 8A championship game.

Bailey scored on runs of 10 and 33 as part of a 149-yard rushing night. His second touchdown came with five minutes left in the game and pushed the Raiders (13-1) past the Ramblers (13-1) for good.

Tied at 14 late in the third quarter, Loyola had taken the lead on a 40-yard field goal by Will Cushwa.

Reed Michalek led the Ramblers with 48 yards rushing and Willy Palivos added 45. Ramblers quarterback Malcolm Weaver threw for 99 yards for Loyola, which managed just 182 yards. Luke Ford made 12 tackles for the Ramblers.

Xavier Perkins had 6 catches for 119 yards for Bolingbrook.
