Carmel finishes with win over Notre Dame

Carmel 20, Notre Dame 14: Something about playing Notre Dame brings out the best in Carmel.

Even in a rare non-playoff year for the Corsairs, they managed to beat the Dons in what amounted to their season finale.

It was Carmel’s 15th straight win over the Niles school.

Carmel (3-6, 3-4 East Suburban Catholic) got an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown by Nick Grandolfo to pull even in the second quarter.

Back-up quarterback Michael Huiras threw an 81-yard TD strike to Joe Perrelle to give the Corsairs the lead for good in the third quarter. Carmel struck again when Tim Serio scored from 10 yards out late in the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, Notre Dame (5-4, 3-3) is all but guaranteed of earning an at-large state playoff berth.
