ACC's Babler scores 4 TDs in win over Lisle

Aurora Central Catholic scored early and held off a second-half Lisle surge to win 29-14 in a nonconference football game Saturday in Lisle. Brandon Babler scored 4 touchdowns to lead the Chargers.

The Chargers (2-0) scored on its first possession. Babler took a 48-yard pass from Matt Rahn into the end zone to give the Chargers a 7-0 lead.

"We knew coming we'd have a shot," Rahn said. "We were thinking about doing it. I walked up to the line and the safety was down, so why not take a shot at it?"

Babler scored twice more, on a 10-yard run and an 11-yard pass from Rahn, to give the Chargers a 22-0 lead. However, the Lions had a drive going as the second quarter was ending.

With the clock ticking down to the half, the Lions had the ball on the 7-yard line. Michael Metoyer ran the ball to the goal line, where he was stopped by the Chargers defense. Metoyer did not score and left the game with a knee injury.

"That was huge momentum-wise going into the half," Rahn said. "They were driving and our defense was out there a long time."

In the second half the Lions (1-1) played an inspired game.

"All of a sudden our kids started doing what they are supposed to be doing and I think they did a nice job," said Lions coach Paul Parpet Sr. "Like I told them, win the second half and that's exactly what they did, 14-7. ... We have to be prepared to come out and play right off the bat."

The Lions' Nick Massura scored 2 touchdowns, one in third quarter and one in fourth. But the effort fell short as Babler scored on a 39-yard run for his fourth touchdown of the day to put the game out of reach.

"I think there were some things we did better than last week, which is good," said Chargers coach Brian Casey. "Some things we got to get better at, which is natural.

"They're a physical team and well-coached. We shot ourselves in the foot. When you fumble the ball on your own 20-yard line and a receiver drops a touchdown, we didn't score on those drives, that's 14 points we left out there. If we want to be a great team we can't let that happen."

The game was originally set for Friday but was rescheduled to Saturday due to threatening weather.
