Hindsight/foresight: An inside look at DuPage County football

Daily Herald report

In the trenches with ...

Lake Park offensive lineman Randy Clark

Year: Senior

Best thing about being an offensive lineman: I love this spot because the main job of an offensive lineman is to destroy the man in front of him. I have four brothers right next to me and we control the whole game. I think any offensive lineman at Lake Park would agree the best part about being who we are is getting pancakes. Although it may not be seen by some fans, at Lake Park we know the real battle is in the trenches between O-line and D-line. It's the only way to have success on any side of the ball: Pancakes, pulling and being the reason for touchdowns.

Worst thing about being an offensive lineman: By far the worst thing about being an offensive lineman is getting stepped on by defensive lineman that weigh over 260 pounds. That and running backs going straight into our backs are hands down the worst parts about being an offensive lineman.

Don't tell my coach that...: (Offensive line coach Chris Benak) talks as though he could take me with pads on, but he clearly needs to get his glasses checked because I know I could take him any day. But he is the best coach I could have asked for at the offensive line position, and he did everything he could to bring all linemen together under one slogan: "Lineman Love."

Team not on our schedule I wish we could play: Addison Trail, because the school is really close to us and many students know each other. So I think it would be a great game to figure out who is better.

How I'll celebrate if I score a TD: I would fall down in the end zone because if I had to run the ball into the end zone I'm sure I'd be pretty tired. Then my teammates would hopefully pick me up and we'd all run to our sideline for 80 high-fives.

Twitter, Facebook or Instagram: Twitter is definitely my favorite. There have been countless times when Twitter has made me laugh. In my opinion Facebook and Instagram are more for pictures rather than funny posts.

What I like best about my school: Definitely Lancer Nation. Our students all came together last year and since then the amount of fans has increased at all sports events. We all support each other to be the best we can. We have Twitter pages that are meant to give praise or support to sports and clubs.

Other sports I play: The only other sport I play is Frisbee golf. Not for Lake Park but just in my free time. Actually, I started getting my lineman brothers into the sport and our tackle threw a Frisbee and it hit our guard in the side of the head. That's the funniest thing I've seen in Frisbee golf.

Other school activities: I do not participate in any other school activities because I am always preparing for my next football season in the weight room. I will support them, however.

Favorite actor: Kevin Hart. He's a comedian that worked his way into movies and I couldn't be happier that he did. I would watch any movie he's in because he alone could make it funny.

Favorite athlete: Ben Roethlisberger is my favorite athlete because of his pump fakes, he scrambles, and because he's big he breaks tackles. I think it's awesome watching a quarterback in the pocket that can shed tackles and still throw a completion.

Favorite musician: I listen to so many different artists it's almost impossible to pick one to call my favorite. I guess I'd have to go with Juicy J because his songs get me pumped.

The Quote:

"I think we're still fighting to get in the playoffs just like we always do, and we're going to fight and claw and find a way to get in. That's kind of where we're at right now. Nothing has really changed. As much as we'd loved to have gotten the three games that we lost back, nothing's changed for our mission."

- IC Catholic Prep coach Bill Krefft after Saturday's loss to St. Edward dropped the Knights to 1-3.

The Stat:

St. Francis quarterback Clint Bobowski completed 34 of 56 passes for 320 yards and Michael Shaw added a 66-yard touchdown pass in the Spartans' 35-29 loss to Brother Rice.

The totals: 35 completions, 57 attempts, 386 yards passing.

In 2013 St. Francis didn't reach that mark until Week 6. Through five games last season the Spartans completed 29 of 59 passes for 383 yards.
