Meet an offensive lineman

Daily Herald Report

In the trenches with ...

Metea Valley offensive lineman Brett Boddy

Year: Senior

Best thing about being an offensive lineman: You get 1-on-1 competition every play. You know if you won or lost, you're accountable and it's a lot of fun to play with these guys.

Worst thing about being an offensive lineman: Probably that if you mess up everybody knows you messed up and if you do well not everybody knows you did well. It's very easy to blame an offensive lineman, but it's hard to give him praise.

If I could change one thing about football: I wish everybody wouldn't get hurt as often. I'd like for it to be a safer sport in general.

Team not on our schedule I wish we could play: Naperville North, no doubt, because my cousin (junior safety Joe Zitella) plays for them. I wish we could get a wide-open play so I could hit him. I'd love to play against him again because we played in middle school and he got the best of me then. I'd love a rematch.

How I'll celebrate if I score a TD: It's so improbable. I'd go crazy, probably "Gronk" spike the ball (like New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski). It'd be awesome.

Twitter, Facebook or Instagram: Definitely Twitter. I think most kids are on Twitter. Instagram is mostly pictures. Twitter is the best form of communication.

What I like best about my school: The people, the students, the coaches. I think it's definitely a hardworking bunch of people, they're not stuck-up and we all "get" each other and work well together. It's very close knit.

Something about me that would surprise you: That I am a big offensive lineman who's a big nerd. I take hard classes. I'm reading a "Game of Thrones" series and that's pretty stereotype-breaking for a 295-pound offensive tackle.

Other sports I play: I used to play basketball, but I stopped as a sophomore. Three sports is very hectic. I play football and I throw (shot put and discus in track).

Other school activities: I'm in Fresh Connect. You get two, three seniors and mentor a bunch of freshmen every week for about a half-hour.

Favorite actor: Probably Will Ferrell. He's just hilarious in everything he's in.

Favorite actress: I don't know.

Favorite athlete: One guy I really admire, he really turned his life around, is Brandon Marshall. He had off-field issues, but when he came here (to the Chicago Bears) he really cleared them up and it was awesome.

Favorite musician: This is tough because I like a lot of different stuff. I'm going to have to go with the Rolling Stones. I feel like they're nice and classic, and it's nice to wind you down. I listen to that on the bus ride home.

The Quote:

"Doesn't every team get 21 points from its defense?"

- Naperville Central coach Mike Stine jokingly referring to his team's three defensive touchdowns in Friday's 28-14 DuPage Valley Conference win over Glenbard North. Linebackers Bobby McMillen and Rick Hatton and defensive lineman Jack Walsh each returned interceptions for touchdowns.

The Stat:

IC Catholic Prep's 30-23 victory over Aurora Central Catholic gave the Knights their 16th straight win over ACC. IC's last loss to the Chargers came in 1998.
