Hill thrills as Antioch handles Mundelein

Antioch standout Griffin Hill was off an running from the opening kickoff and never stopped on his way to a total of 4 touchdowns.

Hill ran for 3 and had another on a kickoff return, giving him 18 TD's this season, and teammate Alan Taylor rushed for another score.

All that was too much for Mundelein as Antioch notched its fifth victory of the season in a 35-8 in a North Suburban Conference crossover matchup.

"We're happy about this and want to keep it rolling," Antioch coach Brian Glashagel said. "We want to compete for the (Prairie) division, get in the playoffs and advance in the playoffs."

Hill started things off Thursday night with an 85-yard return on the opening kickoff to quickly put the Sequoits ahead 6-0.

"I caught the kick and there was people coming from my left side," said Hill about the return. "I just tried to get through the wedge. Someone made a big block, then this huge gap opened up. I just sprinted for the end zone. Maybe someone got a finger on me, but I don't think anybody touched me. The blocking on it was so perfect. You could've drove a truck through that."

And Hill (11 carries, 146 yards) kept moving, along with the rest of the Sequoits' offense. He broke free on a 69-yard touchdown run, and Taylor added a 2-point conversion with a run that put Antioch ahead 14-0 with 1:05 left in the opening quarter.

Mundelein's defense stopped Antioch (5-1) on a couple of drives in the second quarter. And the Mustangs (0-6) closed within 14-8 with 3:43 left before halftime, as Colten Fisher (23 carries, 112 yards) scored on a 1-yard run and Robert Hamilton ran in the 2-point conversion. Hamilton also caught a 31-yard pass on the play before to set up the TD.

"(Mundelein) did a good job of slowing the game down," Glashagel said. "We knew what we had to do to make our adjustments on defense. We responded in the second half."

The Sequoits went on to score 21 unanswered points in the second half.

Hill scored twice in the third quarter, on runs of 3 and 17 yards. Taylor (11 carries, 77 yards) scampered for a 39-yard score. Brandon Burpo recovered a fumble and Matt Adams had an interception that set up the final two scores.

Mundelein had some positive moments but couldn't sustain its effort for the full game.

"Its' been the story of our life this year," Mundelein coach George Kaider said. "We come out and play every team very strong. We're very competitive - second half we were banged up. It made a big difference. Stopping the run, if you can't stop it, then you can't win.

"I thought Colten Fisher ran our offense very well. Our fullbacks ran hard, but when we got into the open field we just couldn't score. (Antioch) had a guy that could score."
