Capturing the drama of Friday night football

Daily Herald staff photographer Laura Stoecker captured the color of Friday night football so dramatically with this photo that editors wanted to share it with all of you.

Here's Stoecker's account of how she got the photo before the game Friday night in which home team Huntley beat visitor Dundee-Crown by a score of 59-14:

"I covered a game at Huntley High School. I hadn't been there since they remodeled the football field and installed a state-of-the-art scoreboard that was able to shoot out fireworks as well.

"While I waited for the warm-ups to wrap up, the fans in the stands were entertained by a pregame fireworks show - and this was no small show.

"I knew I wanted to get the players warming up with the show going on behind them, so I ran over to players, hoping to get something interesting for my Instagram account. As soon as the guys started to huddle, I crouched down and started shooting like crazy.

"The huddle was a few quick seconds and luckily, just the right fireworks burst exploded behind them. I use only photos shot with my iPhone to post on the Instagram account, so it can be challenging to get something decent in low light.

"All I do with the Instagram images is put a frame on it, adjust the contrast, sharpen a bit and post. No crazy filters. It was a nice addition to the (photo) gallery."
