Fremd's Lyke likes Michigan State

With the song "Fireworks" blaring in the background, Fremd's Kenny Lyke caused his own explosion.

The junior had 24 Division I football scholarship offers. He sat at a table Friday afternoon with caps from his final four selections of Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Baylor in front of him. Lyke then reached for the green and white hat emblazoned with a Spartan to announce his choice to attend Michigan State in the fall of 2016.

Lyke, who is a 6-foot-2, 182-pound safety was surrounded by his mother, coaches, friends and teammates when he made his decision in a news conference set up on the track at Hildebrand Stadium at Fremd.

"I just felt at home at Michigan State from the start," Lyke said. "I have been there a couple of times and the guys around Michigan State that are coming in with me is a great group of guys."

Lyke said that his recent visit to Michigan State was the main contributor to his decision.

"They really don't push you that much on their school," Lyke said. "They just lay it out there."

Fremd coach Lou Sponsel was not surprised by Lyke's decision.

"I think he felt at home with the Michigan State coaching staff," Sponsel said. "I am excited for him. I watched his face and I think there is a big relief here. Now he can move forward with his senior season here."
