Waukegan topples North Chicago

Numbers are on the rise for North Chicago's football team.

In their season opener, however, the Warhawks couldn't stay with Waukegan, as the host Bulldogs won 40-12 at Weiss Field on Saturday.

North Chicago has 33 players on its roster with a number of them getting their first opportunity on the varsity.

Waukegan took control of the game in the second quarter behind the running of Lakendrick Wight, who finished with 14 carries for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Waukegan also got rushing scores from Jalen Bay-McKie and Yzekiel Jeric Capilis. Victor Petrick threw a halfback option touchdown pass to James Morgan.

North Chicago quarterback Damond Washington scored on a keeper from 1 yard out. He completed 13 of 24 passes for 155 yards with 1 interception.
