Tuesday Morning Quarterback

Daily Herald Report

Name: Sam Detmers

School: Montini

Year: Senior

Best thing about being an offensive lineman: I like doing the dirty work. It's a lot of fun doing all the hitting and stuff.

Worst thing about being an offensive lineman: It's not bad, I like doing it. It's more just to help the team and stuff. You don't get much glory, but it's all about the team.

Don't tell my coach that: I think it was the St. Joseph game, I was checking to make sure I had all my stuff at school and I accidentally left my hip pads at school. When I was putting them back in my bag I left it back at the school so my mom had to bring one of my old pairs from the house before warmups.

If I could change one thing about football: Sometimes it just gets a lot of bad "rep" about injuries. So I think just having people be more educated about it, and that it's not as dangerous as a lot of people think. Some people don't get the opportunity because their parents don't want them to play - which is understandable - but it's too bad that they don't get to play because football's a great sport.

Team not on our schedule I wish we could play: I'd probably want to play Nazareth because I know a lot of kids on the team. I went to (Westchester) middle school with a bunch of them.

How I'll celebrate if I score a TD: I'd want to do a Gronkowski, spike the ball.

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat: I used to use social media, but it's kind of like a distraction and I don't really like it anymore, so I deleted most of my accounts.

What I like best about my school: It's really a family atmosphere. It's not very "cliquey," everybody gets along, there's a lot of support at our football games. I think it's just a really great atmosphere.

Something about me that would surprise you: I think a lot of people don't know I play the trumpet. I'm still in the band.

Other sports I play: I used play baseball and wrestled a little bit, too. I think I might possibly do rugby this year.

Favorite actor: Will Ferrell. He's the best comedian out there.

Favorite actress: Mila Kunis, because she's hot.

Favorite athlete: Probably Jonathan Toews. He's a really good hockey player and he's a good role model on and off the ice.

Favorite musician: I'd say probably Led Zeppelin. I listen to a lot of stuff, but I like rock.

The stat

Running for 298 yards in a 40-10 Metro Suburban West win over Wheaton Academy, IC Catholic Prep junior back Jordan Rowell broke 1,000 yards on the season. On 95 carries he's gained 1,003 yards, averaging 10.6 yards a carry.

The quote

"When I saw the ball coming my way, I kind of knew I was going to take it to the house because we practiced it a couple times. Actually, several times."

- Glenbard North running back-defensive back Devion Hodges talking about his 89-yard kick return for a touchdown at the start of the Panthers' 42-3 DuPage Valley Conference victory over Lake Park.
