Alexander, Hoffman Estates speed past Maine West

Hoffman Estates offense was firing on all pistons in dismantling visiting Maine West 48-7 in a nonconference football game Friday.

The Hawks (3-0) saw Jaylan Alexander take part in 4 touchdowns.

Alexander scored on runs of 3 and 1 yards. He caught a 38 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Austin Miller-Coalson and threw an 85-yard option pass touchdown to Jayvon Blissett in the second quarter.

"That was a tough touchdown for us to overcome," said Maine West coach Jason Kradman. "That made it 14-0 early in the second quarter.

"We had moved the ball well from our 20 to their 11-yard line. We lost 4 yards and then threw 3 incompletions. They get a touchdown on their first play. I thought we were ready to play, but we didn't act like it."

The Hawks, who next week play at head coach Mike Donatucci's alma-mater, Maine East, look to go 4-0 for the first time since the 1988 undefeated team.

"The program is progressing," said Donatucci. "The players have worked real hard and it's paying dividends."

Miller-Coalson and the Hawks offense have line have been one of the bigger strong points in Hoffman's success this year.

Miller-Coalson completed 11 of 13 passing attempts for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns. Miller-Coalson praised the offensive line of Francisco Hurtado, Ryan Edwards, Jorge Morales, Angel Fernandez and Brandon Sheppard.

"Without them," said Miller-Coalson, "I wouldn't be able to do what I've been able to do. Working with them in preseason and in practice was pretty smooth. Because of their work I have more confidence in myself and I am able to have good field vision. To keep going we have to stay humble and keep preparing."

Alexander on a 3-yard run in the first quarter following a 10-play, 65-yard drive for a 7-0 lead with 5:47 remaining.

Following an Alexander option touchdown pass, Jaylin Johnson scored from the 1 yard line with 5:40 left in the second quarter.

The Warriors (2-1) scored on quarterback Sam Kindle's 11-yard run with 1:08 left in the half.

Miller-Coalson closed the quarter with a 34-yard pass to Daniel Banahan with :02 left.

On the previous play, Maine West standout Marteen Robinson suffered a head injury and did not return to the game.

Alexander caught 38-yard pass to start the third quarter, staking Hoffman to a 35-7 lead. Alexander then scored on a 1-yard run on the Hawks' next possession.

Jordan Lane finished the Hoffman scoring with a 5-yard run late in the fourth quarter for a 48-7 lead.

Maine West scored on the final play of the game on George Makaris' 37-yard pass to Gio Farone.

The Hawks pounded out 457 yards to the Warriors' 230. Maine West's ground game was limited, finishing with 85 yards.

"I thought our defense held them in check," said Hoffman Estates' Errick Delaney. "We contained the outside and let the linebackers stop their inside game."
