Lake Zurich's Proffitt placed on administrative leave

Lake Zurich's football team will be without head coach David Proffitt when the Bears play Fenwick in the second round of the Class 7A state playoffs Saturday night at Triton College.

"I'm on administrative leave, temporarily, for something involving my team," Proffitt said Saturday. "It has nothing to do with me personally other than I'm responsible for their actions."

Jean Malek, director of communications and planning for Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95, added that both Proffitt and assistant coach Chad Beaver are on paid administrative leave.

"This is a personnel matter so we won't comment any further," Malek said in an email. "Administrative leave is a normal step when conducting a personnel inquiry and does not indicate wrongdoing on the part of these coaches."

As part of his administrative leave, Proffitt will not be at the Bears' game Saturday night.

"And I respect that," Proffitt said. "I support the school and their decision and what's going on, and we'll go forward. We'll get through it."

If the Bears beat Fenwick, Proffitt said he will be coaching the team next weekend in the quarterfinals.

"We will see," he said. "We got a big task (vs. Fenwick)."
