Lakes' Edwards finalist for Butkus Award

Former Lakes standout T.J. Edwards has been named as one of the five finalists for the Butkus Award.

The Wisconsin linebacker is joined by fellow Big Ten linebacker Devin Bush of Michigan.

The award is given to the most outstanding linebacker in college football every year.

Edwards, an inside linebacker for the Badgers, has 2 sacks, 8.5 tackles for loss and 60 total tackles (39 solo, 21 assisted) in 11 games this fall.

In addition, he has 6 passes defended and has made 4 interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

When Wisconsin defeated Michigan 24-10 in Week 12, Edwards recorded 11 total tackles (7 solo), 1 sack and 2.5 tackles for loss while Bush finished with 5 tackles (1 solo) and an interception at Camp Randall Stadium.

Football

Lafayette junior linebacker Jerry Powe (Warren) earned a spot on the All-Patriot League team for the second straight season.

He finished third on the team with 70 tackles, including six tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, while also recording his first career interception.

Powe has started 28 of 32 games in his career. He was a two-time North Suburban all-conference selection who had 10 interceptions during his career which included three seasons playing cornerback, safety and wide receiver for the Wildcats.

Powe also ran the hurdles and 100 meters in track and field at Libertyville.

He started every game at linebacker for DePauw last season and was named the team's linebacker MVP.

As a freshman, he was named DePauw's Defensive Rookie of the Year after starting six of the 10 games.

Men's basketball

Villanova junior Jalen Brunson (Stevenson) was named the most valuable player in the recent Battle 4 Atlantis.

He scored 16 points with 4 steals and 2 assists in a 64-50 win over Northern Iowa in the championship game.

It was the fifth straight time No. 6 -ranked Villanova (6-0) won a tournament title in November.

The Wildcats also won the Battle 4 Atlantis crown in 2013. The other tourney titles were the 2014 Legends Classic, the 2015 NIT Season Tip-Off and the 2016 Gildan Charleston Classic.

Women's basketball

DePauw freshman Claire Keefe (Libertyville) had game-high 9 rebounds along with 12 points as the Tigers improved to 3-0 with a 69-62 win over Franklin.
