Glenbard South wins again in UEC

Any concerns that Glenbard South might not be able to compete with the bigger schools on their Upstate Eight Conference football schedule are easing.

The Raiders won their second straight conference game Friday night in Glen Ellyn, cruising past Elgin 34-3.

Glenbard South, by far the smallest school in its new league, will have tougher games than Friday's, but the Raiders enjoyed going to 2-0 overall and in the UEC.

Glenbard South opened the scoring with a 6-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Nick Plaso that was tipped on the way to Trevor Burnett's hands.

A Plaso 59-yard run up the middle in the second quarter gave the Raiders a 14-0 lead when lightning was spotted midway through the second quarter. After an hour delay the game resumed.

The Raiders picked up where they left off in the second half. This time it was Kylen Henderson with a 26-yard run up the middle to give the Raiders a 21-0 lead. Glenbard South then took advantage of an Elgin fumble, going 36 yards in five plays for another touchdown. This one, on a 10-yard run by Antonio Carter, made the score 27-0 with 8:14 to go in the third quarter.

Henderson struck again with 8:24 to play in the fourth quarter, this time from 22 yards, and Glenbard South led 34-0.

Elgin spoiled the Raiders' hopes of a shutout with a 26-yard field goal by Guillermo Falcon.
