Sanchez, Keegan earn accolades from Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears announced Friday that Joe Sanchez of Barrington been named the Chicago Bears High School Coach of the Week for Week 3 and lineman Trevor Keegan of Crystal Lake South was named the Chicago Bears High School All-Star.

Sanchez led the Broncos to a come-from-behind 26-23 victory at Maine South.

EJ Darlington, Adam Brokke and Tim Lowe recorded touchdowns in the win. Darlington, who is a wide receiver, caught a pass from quarterback Tommy Fitzpatrick and proceeded to throw a lateral pass to Lowe for the game-winning touchdown. The Broncos have posted all three victories this year on the road against teams that qualified for state playoffs last season.

Keegan and the Crystal Lake South Gators registered a 40-21 win vs. Crystal Lake Central for their first victory of the season. Keegan, a Division I prospect, caught a punted ball kicked by Central quarterback Aidan Ellinger after the snap was fumbled and returned it for a 35-yard touchdown, marking his first career touchdown. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound senior is the first lineman to win the award. He is currently ranked as the top prospect in the state by rivals.com.

Sanchez and Keegan will be invited to the Bears vs. Packers game on Sunday, Dec. 16, and will join their fellow 2018 Coach of the Week and High School All-Star honorees for a pregame photo on the field. They will each also receive a framed certificate signed by Bears general manager Ryan Pace, head coach Matt Nagy and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

In addition to Coach of the Week and High School All-Star honorees attending the Bears vs. Packers game, all eight IHSA football state champion teams will also be recognized on Dec. 16.

The Bears, in partnership with IHSA, will invite representatives from each team to the game and hold a special recognition of their state titles during halftime.
