A large crowd turned out to watch Stevenson host Mundelein for its homecoming on Friday night. The stakes were high as either the Mustangs would remain undefeated and become playoff-eligible or the Patriots would break a two-game losing streak to get back over .500. The latter of those scenarios played out, and the Patriots can breathe a little easier after a tough 10-3 victory.

The Warren-Lake Zurich game lived up to its billing as the visiting Blue Devils fell behind 17-7 at halftime only to turn things around in the second half en route to an exciting 21-17 North Surburban Central victory.

Warren loses QB, but runs away with win over Stevenson

Warren rushed for more than 400 yards to beat Stevenson 41-16 on Thursday in the North Suburban Conference. The Blue Devils lost senior QB Nate Foster to a knee injury in the second quarter, but was able to ride their run game.

Warren skipped to a 28-8 victory behind sophomore running back Aaron Stewart’s 238 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns and a swarming, ferocious defense that limited Libertyville to a scant 5 yards on the ground. Warren had entered the game with an 0-2 record to Libertyville’s 2-0 mark.

Lake Zurich scores 21 unanswered points in second half to take down Stevenson

Taking advantage of some early miscues by visiting Lake Zurich helped Stevenson take a 10-0 halftime lead in this North Suburban Conference football opener Friday night. But the second half was an entirely different story as the Bears scored 21 unanswered points before capturing a 21-16 NSC victory to improve to 3-0 overall.

'Now that we have it, it's amazing': High school girls flag football is growing in the suburbs

Girls flag football is seeing amazing growth. According to National Federation of State High School Associations surveys, the number of girls playing flag football rose 86% from 2018-19 to 2022-23, from 11,209 players to 20,875. “I'm confident — obviously not 100% yet, but confident — it will be an IHSA (Illinois High School Association) sport next year,” said Rachel Karos, Willowbrook's co-head coach.

Barrington upsets Warren 40-33 in wild opening-night win

After falling to Warren in three straight opening games, the Barrington football team found the magic touch on Friday night on its home field. On third-and-10 from the 21-yard line, senior Matt Marusich caught a sideline pass from junior Nick Peipert and then magically bounced off a would-be tackler and made it into the end zone for the final score in Barrington’s wild 40-33 victory over the No. 5 ranked team in Class 8A.
